Berries are late this year...such a cold summer

One of my annual stress relievers is spending the day outside picking berries. There is something about being surrounded with nature that drains away my tension. A lady here said that her family went out and looked around but didn't see any ripe fruit at all...sad. It has been so cold... hopefully soon...

If it's any consolation, the berries are behind schedule here as well--and it looks like they're not going to be quite as plentiful as last year. We've had a cool, wet summer--not a great growing season.

I hope this means we are going to have a mild winter...

The grass is very tall here - Grandpa says that means a lot of snow. We went out berrypicking yesterday and got some cloud berries - everyone calls them salmonberries here. Most were not ripe yet and the blueberries were amazingly green at the end of July!!! Crazy summer! The good news is that we actually got to see some blue in the sky both yesterday and today. Sadly the forecast says the clouds are rolling in again. We seen four bears while picking - very exciting - one of them had a white band on its neck. My elders say those are very dangerous, but it was far enough away to not cause too much alarm, just excitement.
